Dave's Movember Journey :: Week 1

I am a Bearded man. That is, I was up until 7am this morning. For the last 6/7 years a razor has not touched this face. Style, shape and length may have varied, but there has always been one constant, the beard.

As you may be able to tell, I’m still a little shaken up. I’ve turned from a man in his *cough* late *cough* twenties to a 12 year old boy with a few swift swipes of a blade.

My first thought as a bald faced man stepping out into the world was, ‘my face has never known a cold so pure’. This is gonna be a long month, at least my top lip will be warm by the end.

But, the cause is worthy. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what the Movember Foundation do, they’re tackling prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Like I said, an amazing cause and I fully encourage you to read more into what they do, contribute what you can and get involved in the Movember fun!

The idea is that you clean shave your face on the first of November and continue to do so for the whole month leaving only the tache to grow. Whether you leave it au naturel or twizzle and twirl your top lip tickler is entirely up to you.

As a Beard lover and employee of a Beard Company I’d NEVER EVER usually encourage anyone to chop off their Beard but this is the one time of year it’s acceptable. You also get to see what you look like with only a moustache by the end of the month and that’s something we’ve all wanted to know isn’t it?

I’m going to be updating you all weekly on my personal Movember journey throughout the month and giving you tips on grooming and styling. Comments are open so please feel free to tell me how your journey’s going! I hope we can all raise LOADSA MONEY together for Movember and help them continue their great work and stop men dying too young.

My first tip, whether you’ve chopped off your beard or are usually clean shaven and this is your first time growing any kind of facial hair is to make sure you are using a Beard oil!! I know it sounds odd as we’re all going to be beardless but the oil is amazing at keeping the freshly shaved skin moisturised and free from soreness. It also helps to soften the stubble and stop in-growing hairs, so as the tache comes in it will significantly reduce the dreaded itch!

I’ve set up my own page where you can donate if you have a few bob to spare, I’ve also set up a Brighton Beard Co. Movember Team which I encourage you to join if you are participating yourself, join the Brotherhood!

Happy Tache Growing,

Dave
